Agriculture At Scale
Did you know 83% of global human caloric consumption is exclusively from plants and all that plant food is grown on just 23% of all agricultural land?
I found it quite fascinating to learn that given the kinds of foods we see around us. The inverse part of this statistic is probably the most intriguing piece. That the other 77% agricultural land produces only 13% the calories all humans consume globally. That's a lot of land for very low pay off. It becomes even more skewed because First World countries eat a disproportionately larger portion of that 13% because of wealth and access. And what foods make up that 13%? Meat and dairy.
